Ukrainian paratroopers had been defending the airport since April 2014, surrounded on all sides and cut off from ground communication. In July, Ukrainian forces broke through to the airfield, successfully breaking the encirclement by russian forces.

A series of intense battles took place in 2014 for control of the city of Lyman (formerly Krasny Liman) in the Donetsk region during the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine. Russian militant fortifications were dismantled in the southern part of the Krasnolymansky district, including the city of Siversk, as well as the villages of Yampil, Zarichne, Zakitne, and the remnants of Krasny Liman. During the operation, a portion of the criminal elements were detained and held accountable under criminal law. However, the majority of these militants were Russian forces redeployed to the city of Sloviansk.

Defense of the Kramatorsk Checkpoint: On June 9, 2014, despite facing significant challenges and casualties, the brigade successfully defended this crucial strategic position.

On July 5, 2014, the brigade’s forces were instrumental in repelling an assault by militant columns of heavy equipment at the 5th checkpoint near Sloviansk. During the engagement, Mendel Roman, a brave soldier of the brigade, made the ultimate sacrifice. The attack was successfully repelled, and the enemy’s equipment was destroyed. Later that same day, the brigade, in coordination with other units, entered Sloviansk.

Taking Control of Strategic Settlements: In August 2014, the brigade participated in operations to seize key settlements, including Vugleghirsk, Oleksandrivsk, Vilkhuvatka, and Bulavynsk.

During this campaign, the brigade’s forces participated in fierce battles for Donetsk Airport and Avdiivka. Personnel were also involved in carrying out anti-terrorist operations in the areas surrounding the settlements of Avdiivka, Toretsk, Zaitseve, Mayorske, Shchastya, and Stanytsia-Luhansk.

Battles for Donetsk Airport: In January 2015, a portion of the brigade was deployed to the battle zone to secure this strategic location.

Continued Participation in Hostilities in 2019: The brigade held its positions in the Luhansk region for nearly seven months, with around 1,000 soldiers actively involved in these combat operations.

Full-Scale Invasion Response: The brigade’s units confronted the full-scale invasion in the Avdiivka direction, where they held the defense line until June 2022.

Liberation of Izyum – September 2022: The liberation of Izyum in September 2022 was one of the key operations during the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region, marking a significant moment in the Russian-Ukrainian war. The role of the 25th Separate Airborne Brigade was crucial to the successful recapture of the city from Russian occupation. In the lead-up to the liberation, the brigade’s fighters were among the first to break through the Russian-controlled corridor to Izyum. Through effective coordination with other military formations, the brigade worked in concert with allied units, and together they entered the city, securing its freedom.

Defense Operations – October 2022 to June 2023: the brigade’s personnel participated in defensive operations along the Svatove-Kreminna axis. Since July 2023, the brigade has been executing key tasks in the Kupyansk-Svatove direction, successfully repelling daily enemy assaults.
